Mutare actress breaks into SA showbiz

film producer and scriptwriter, Amanda Ranganawa has stormed into the South African showbiz after she was invited to join part of the behind the scenes crew and learn about television and film at Ferguson Films.

The talented actress who is currently in South Africa is getting assistance from veteran executive producers at Ferguson Films such as Connie and Shona Ferguson who also owns the stable as well as director, Zolani Phakade.

She is learning more on the shooting of the film series: “The Queen”, a Ferguson Films production. Connie is popular on SA showbiz after she featured as Karabo on Generations.

Ranganawa during her stint in Mzansi has also met the likes of veteran actors such as Themba Ndaba.

Themba Ndaba acts as Brutus in “The Queen” and used to live in Zimbabwe in the early 90s.

She is also brushing shoulders with the famous Sello Maake kaNcube, popularly known on TV as Archie Moroka from Generations and Daniel Nyathi from Scandal.

“The Queen” airs on Dstv Channel 161 from Monday to Thursday at 9pm.

“I was fortunate enough to get the producers approval to attend the set as a director in training. This has made me learn more about directing, camera work, lights, sound, make up and costume among other things. With Zolani Phakade guiding, she is learning more about the tricks of making a television series.

“Dineo Moakatse who acts as Kea Khoza has been very encouraging on my dream to storm into Hollywood. She always encourages me to keep my hopes high and have faith in God.

“Being on set with the great giants of the SA acting industry has made me realise that dreams do come true,” said Ranganawa adding:

“I am enjoying the experience. If only we get support in Zimbabwe we have the potential to reach this level of professionalism.”

The former University of Zimbabwe student and her sister, Tanaka recently co-produced and released a movie: “All she wants”.

The film is about a young, independent business woman (Amanda Ranganawa) who is trying to manage her late father’s estate in a professional way.

Unfortunately, her mother (Everjoice Mahachi) and rich fiancée, (Dearly T Kanyaz) try to take that away from her. Themes of love, betrayal and power dominate the movie. She currently owns a film studio that aims to create employment among youths and nurture the talent of aspiring actors, actresses, filmmakers and producers and be able to earn a living.  The film studio also offers courses in scriptwriting, directing, and graphic design among other things.
