FORMER Warriors midfielder Lazarus “Mali” Muhoni has expressed grief over the death of local football legend David “Yogi” Mandigora, under whom he played at Dynamos between 2008 and 2010.

Mandigora died in Harare last Saturday aged 64.

The Sakubva-born retired player paid tribute to his ex-coach, describing him as a fatherly figure who contributed a lot to the development and growth of the local game.

“My deepest condolences to the Mandigora family on the loss of coach David. He was such a fine mentor who taught me a lot about the game and we had good times together at Dynamos. He signed me from Black Rhinos to DeMbare and I am grateful for that chance he offered me to turn out for one of the biggest clubs in Africa.

“This is such a huge blow not only to his immediate family, but the club as well and the nation at large. It is unfortunate I cannot make it for his funeral but my thoughts and prayers are with the entire football fraternity.

“May we find comfort in God and console each other during this difficult time. Death has robbed us of a loyal and humble servant of the game who was dedicated to his duty. Coach Yogi’s contribution was immense and it benefited many, myself included. May his soul rest in peace,” said Muhoni.
