GIFTED Mutare-based sungura musician, Moses Mubako and gospel artiste, Rachel Zvarimwa, have released new albums.

Mubako and The Wise Friends, a group based in the Bernwin suburb of the eastern border city, usually performs live shows in Mutare, Odzi and Murambinda.

Hero Basa, which was well received by sungura followers in Manicaland, was their first album.

Thus, Kukanga Dombo becomes Mubako’s second and latest offering.

The phrase kukanga dombo is actually a line in a love song, Rudo, where one bemoans being taken for a ride.

Said Mubako: “A video for the latest album will be released soon. Other songs on this album include Gona, which talks about the use of rituals to derail the life of a young person.

“Rwendo Rwembwa, another song on the latest album, talks about the conflict between parental advice and the thinking of young people, while Tsika Dzedu bemoans cultural degradation.

“Ndionewo is a song about an orphaned child left to struggle on his own, while Ndamba Kuudzwa is a song on the dangers of refusing to heed advice.”

Elsewhere, the scintillating eight-track album by Zvarimwa is a culmination of a career that started in 2007 when she penned her first song after a lengthy stint in choral praise and worship church groups.

Together with the His Mercies Group, Zvarimwa’s latest album has tracks that include Wouya Jesu, Maitiro avo Mwari, Getting Better, Ndinodanidzira, Mwari Weminana, Pakutanga Shoko Raivako and Batsirai Jehovah.

The eighth track, Inyasha, is her first single track and was placed on the latest album as a bonus song.

Zvarimwa said: “I am grateful with the path my gospel music career has taken so far. Yes, it is still early days, but I am very confident that I will get there.

“I started off in choral groups, performing praise and worship songs in church, but I am blessed that the people around me saw my potential, hence the production of this album. We have a lot more coming,” she said.
