DANGAMVURA-based Mountaineers’ star Donald Tiripano scored his first One Day International (ODI) half century on Tuesday as Zimbabwe narrowly lost to Bangladesh.

Zimbabwe lost by four runs in the second game of the ODI series played in Bangladesh.

Tiripano’s exploits had brought Zimbabwe close to victory with 55 runs out of 28 balls. The fellow was not out at the end of the match.

The cricketer also needed to score a six off the final ball, but only managed to get a single run.

Ultimately, Zimbabwe finished on 318/8 in response to Bangladesh’s 322/8.

In a telephone interview from Bangladesh, Tiripano told Post Sport that he is looking forward to a great match.

“In today’s game (Friday), I will try and make sure we revert to the basics, a better execution percentage is needed in all aspects of our innings.

“We have to be right on the money to be able to beat Bangladesh. I had a good game on Tuesday. I give glory to our Lord Jesus Christ for the milestone, but to be honest, during the game l did not even realise that l was on 50 as l was only focusing on the deficit,” he said.

Zimbabwe will play for pride in the final ODI today as Bangladesh commands an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.

Bangladesh won the first ODI by 169 runs.

Meanwhile, Mountaineers captain Kevin Kasuza has promised a polished performance as they continue with the Logan Cup games.

Mountaineers are playing against log leaders Eagles.

The Mountaineers, having been champions on three occasions, are currently on second position on the log after losing one of the four games they played.

Kasuza acknowledges the threat posed by Eagles after losing to them by three wickets earlier on.

However, he said they are working hard to return the cup to Manicaland.

“We are working really hard to retain the Logan Cup. We know it is not going to be easy, but we will do our best as a team. We lost to Eagles earlier on but we are working hard to rectify the mistakes leading to our loss. This is our trophy and we will win it back,” he said.

Kasuza, who made his debut for the national team last month, said his experience with the Chevrons will add value to the Mountaineers.

“I have gained a lot of experience and I think it will help the club. Playing at national level is an eye opener,” he said.
