MUTARE-born top model and reigning Miss Ireland International (2019) will late this month tour Manicaland in a homecoming expedition aimed at exploring opportunities to work with youth, business and society at large.
Blessing Mutamba, whose reign ends this month, will also tour Harare and the majestic Victoria Falls before embarking on modelling classes and networking events.
Speaking from her base in Guernsey, Channel Islands in the United Kingdom (UK), Mutamba, who grew up in Mutare’s medium-density suburb of Morningside, last year raised the Zimbabwean flag high after being one of the nominees in the female Personality of the Year category at the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards held in the UK.
“The idea came because my reign ends at the end of January 2020. I want to share my achievements with the people of Zimbabwe, particularly the youth. I also intend to share the work I have been doing.
“I plan to engage some stakeholders and women in business and get some ideas on how we can put together an appropriate infrastructure and explore young people’s opportunities to mentorship and engagement on entrepreneurial activities. We need to enhance their employability within Zimbabwe and abroad.
“It’s easy for people to forget to celebrate the youth’s achievements because of so many other negative factors in life and I want to create a platform for this through this tour. I am nervous and excited to organise such an event, but it’s worthwhile,” she said.
She paid tribute to organisations such as Dial-a-drink and Patsime Trust that have been instrumental in planning the tour.
“I will be stopping in Victoria Falls, Harare and my hometown of Mutare. I will be doing workshops, modelling classes and networking events such as braai parties,” she added.
Mutamba started a charitable organisation which raised £2 000. The money was channelled towards the operations of Save the Children in the rural areas.
She is a holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Creative Enterprise, which she passed with a First Class Honours from Southampton Solent University.
She was in a group of 20 candidates that were chosen out of 180 applicants to participate in the launch pad business incubator underpinned by a funded master’s degree in entrepreneurship at Falmoth University.
