THE Government is committed to fighting and ending corruption at all levels and in all sectors as the vice corrodes good corporate governance tenets, a Cabinet Minister has said.

In his remarks during the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development’s strategic planning and review workshop at a local hotel last week, Minister Felix Mhona called on all departments to have in place effective mechanisms to root out corruption and mitigate its impact on operations.

He said Government had zero tolerance on corruption.

“Despite the country experiencing some challenges, when we provide services to the citizenry let us do it to the best of our knowledge and abilities. The transport sector is synonymous with corrupt tendencies and the Second Republic is saying no to corruption. When we craft our policies, we need to include that which looks at ways of fighting corruption. Those policies and the manner in which we serve the public must show corruption is not acceptable at all,” said Minister Mhona.

He challenged the Ministry’s departments to uphold efficiency and be consistent in effectively discharging their duties during their operations.

Said Minister Mhona: “Let me urge you all as leaders to provide proper and effective leadership and governance in your respective departments and parastatals in a way that is sustainable and inclusive. This means that we should pursue the objectives of integrated socio-economic performance in the transport and infrastructure sectors, including taking into consideration the needs of citizens and stakeholders.”
