RUSAPE-BASED Midway Football Club have joined ZIFA Eastern Region Division One League and have vowed that they are not there to make up numbers, but to be a competitive outfit.

Midway which is based at Midway Farm owned by Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor, John Mangudya, failed to get automatic qualification into the league from Manicaland Division Two League play-offs, but were invited to join the second tier league.

The team chairman and farm manager, Miller Chiposa, said they have intensified preparations and have since paid the affiliation fees.

He added that they are in the process of fine-tuning their executive, beefing up the squad as well as recruiting qualified coaches.

“We will be playing in the Eastern Region Division One this season. We have since paid our affiliation fees, and we are in the process of registering players.

“For now, Robson Chisoma is our head coach, but he may be affected by the ZIFA required qualifications. We have also received several applications which we are going through to find suitable candidates to work with Chisoma.

“We will also reshuffle the executive to bring in people with experience. I am among those leaving the executive because I am not interested in soccer, plus I have other work commitments. Our farm will be our home ground and renovations are underway to meet the required ZIFA standards.

“We are constructing changing rooms, toilets and fencing the pitch among other things. If we fail to finish before the start of the season, we will temporarily use Vengere Stadium,” said Chiposa.

Chisoma said they have identified seven new players and have so far played two friendly matches as they prepare for the new season.

“We started preparations three weeks ago and we have played two friendly matches against Rusitu Tigers and Hunters. This weekend, we will visit Chivhu United. Our squad requires reinforcement and we have so far identified seven new players to recruit,” said Chisoma.
