THE Meteorological Service Department (MSD) is closely monitoring a tropical cyclone that is developing in the Indian Ocean.

The social media has been awash with images and messages on the cyclone which is said will hit Beira between December 28 and January 3,2021.

In an interview with The Manica Post, Manicaland provincial chief met officer, Mr Lucas Murambi, confirmed the cyclone.

“Thank you all for sharing information on the tropical cyclone which is developing in the Indian Ocean.

The Met Department is seriously monitoring the cyclone in order to track its trajectory.

“The cyclone’s position at the moment does not cause any threat until it gets into the Mozambican channel. It will have some effects when it hits mainland,” said Mr Murambi.

He added that MSD will continue having regular meetings with the Department of Civil Protection and other stakeholders and will update the public regularly.
