YOUNG swimmers from Manicaland excelled at the recently concluded Zimbabwe Junior Nationals held at Les Brown Pool in Harare from last Friday to Sunday, securing a total of 20 medals.
Manicaland swimming chairperson, Duduzile Mthethwa commended the young athletes on their outstanding performance.
“Congratulations to Manicaland’s junior swimming athletes on their impressive showing at the Zimbabwe Junior Nationals. We are proud to announce that our athletes scooped a total of 20 medals, showcasing their dedication, talent, and hard work,” he said.
Team Manicaland’s standout performers included Paquita Bryer, who claimed an impressive haul of one gold, three silver, and one bronze medals in the relay events.
Lewis Mushoweshiri excelled in the boys’ 15-16 years’ category, securing the second-best aggregate.
In other notable performances, Yvonne Mubaiwa (12) qualified for the 50m butterfly final and was an alternate in the 100m breaststroke and 50m freestyle finals.
Alvin Mufute also impressed, securing the second-best aggregate in the boys’ 13-14 years’ category.
Muthetwa said: “We extend our deepest gratitude to Border Dolphins Club for their continuous support and training, which helped to produce these outstanding representatives.
“A heartfelt thank you also goes to our coaches, who have always been there by the poolside, with a special mention to coach, Nyasha Mukonyora, for his exceptional leadership as the team coach, and to manager, Leeroy Museta, for his dedication and support.
“As the chair of Manicaland Swimming, I am incredibly proud of our athletes and thrilled to see Manicaland represented so strongly on the national stage. Their achievements are a testament to the hard work and commitment they have put into their sport.”
