THE ongoing extension and refurbishment of three vegetable and flea markets to accommodate more vendors and traders has given hope for a more conducive and clean environment for vendors around the Zimta Park area, Mukwena Market in Dangamvura and Sakubva Flea Market.
Mutare City Council is already in the process of expanding market stall space in the three suburbs, and new stalls will soon be constructed after the ongoing clearing process.
For Mukwena Market, the local authority is carrying out works in partnership with CARE.
Mutare Informal Traders Association president, Mr Itai Kariparire said: “We are happy that our calls have finally been answered. We have been clamouring for expansion of trading space as well as construction of new markets to accommodate our members and this is exactly what we were looking forward to. We just hope and pray the process will go ahead smoothly until the usually controversial allocation of tables.”
