A MARANGE man was recently arrested for fatally assaulting his physically challenged father with a log and iron pick handle after coming home drunk.
Godfrey Ndagurwa (23) of Chikonzo Village under Chief Marange allegedly struck his father, Pindai Ndagurwa (65), on the forehead who died on the spot.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luxson Chananda confirmed the murder, saying Godfrey came from Bambazonke Rural Business Centre in a drunken stupor and insulted his now late father and mother, Mrs Rhoda Ndagurwa, who are both wheelchair-bound.
“On August 20, Godfrey came home drunk and started insulting his parents before picking a fight with his father. He hit his father with a piece of log and also used the same weapon to destroy their house’s windowpanes. His father tried to wheel himself into the house to seek refuge, but he was overpowered and hit on the head with an iron pick handle,” said Inspector Chananda.
Sensing danger upon seeing her husband lying on the ground bleeding, Godfrey’s mother called for help from her other son who lives within their homestead’s compound.
He swiftly reacted and managed to subdue Godfrey by tying his hands on a tree.
His father sustained a deep wound on the head and died before any medical assistance could be rendered to him.
A report was made to the police, leading to Godfrey ‘s arrest.
He is set to appear in court facing murder charges.
