ALL roads will be leading to Mutare this weekend where blockbuster matches are lined up for tertiary students who will battle it out for the championship honour and more than seven sport disciplines are to be played as Africa University host ZUSA games while Mutare Marymount host ZITCOSA games.

It is the first of its own kind to have both Zimbabwe Universities Sports Association ZUSA and Zimbabwe Teachers Colleges Association ZITCOSA hosts their sporting events in the same province over the same weekend.

ZITCOSA president Andrew Moyo confirmed that all games are to start on Friday and end on Monday.

“All is set for this year’s ZITCOSA games which will commence on the 12th till the 15th this month. All teachers colleges in Zimbabwe will take part and seven disciplines will be played including the popular pool,” said Moyo.

He also highlighted that apart from using the rotational method in selecting a province where the games would be played, Manicaland was chosen so as to console and unify those who lost their relatives to Cyclone Idai which hit the province.

“This year’s theme is ‘Promoting mental, spiritual and physical healing through sport’ and we have also dedicated ourselves to console the people in Manicaland after the devastating cyclone. Manicaland deserved the honour to host this tournament and soon after the tournament on Monday, we are also going to handover our donation to Cyclone Idai victims,” said Moyo.

ZITCOSA sports development officer Zvidzai Zvidzai emphasised on the need to take sport seriously and as a way of life.

“Sport is part of our curriculum and I urge all athletes to do their best since this tournament is where we are going to scout for teachers colleges national team which will represent us globally,” he said.

Meanwhile, Africa University confirmed hosting of ZUSA games in a statement issued to its students early this week.

“Africa University will be hosting the 2019 Zimbabwe Universities Sports Association ZUSA games cluster 2 from the 11th to the 14th April 2019.
