A POTENTIALLY exhilarating 2025 edition of the footgolf regional qualifiers that will attract participants from the country’s 10 provinces, and players aged between four and 80, will get underway at Montclair Golf Course in Nyanga next Saturday.

Footgolf, a rapidly growing sport, in Zimbabwe is a unique combination of football and golf.

Players kick a football into a hole in as few kicks as possible, following a similar layout of a traditional golf course.

The sport requires precision, patience, and skill, making it an exciting and challenging activity for participants of all ages.

Last year’s winners, Stanslous Nyachowe and Gaily Chawomba, will defend their titles at this year’s event, which promises to be an exhilarating competition.

In addition to individual participants, primary, secondary and tertiary institutions will also be represented, making it a fun-filled day for the family.

ZFGA president, Daniel Kuwengwa said: “Zimbabwe Footgolf Association is thrilled to announce that it will be hosting a regional qualifier tournament at Claremont Golf Club in Nyanga on March 15, 2025.

“Footgolf is a sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and backgrounds, and we believe that this event will, not only promote the sport, but also contribute to the economic development of the region. The association invites all footgolf enthusiasts, schools, and community groups to participate in the regional qualifier tournament. Registration forms can be obtained from ZFGA.”

Kuwengwa said there are some spinoffs to be gained by the hosting community and province.

“The ZFGA is delighted to host the tournament in Nyanga, a picturesque town nestled in the Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe. The region offers breath-taking scenery, with rolling hills, sparkling waterfalls, and lush forests, making it an ideal destination for tourists. The hosting of the regional qualifier tournament in Nyanga is expected to have significant socio-economic benefits for the local community. The event will attract visitors from across the country, boosting local businesses, such as hotels, restaurants, and shops.

“Additionally, the tournament will provide an opportunity for local residents to engage in a new and exciting sport, promoting physical activity, social interaction, and community development,” he said.

Meanwhile, ZFGA is set to host its annual awards for the Year 2024.
