THE stream bank serene environs of Crocodile Motel in Rusape will be a hive of activity when the Manicaland Classic Bodybuilding 2019 contest gets underway tomorrow (Saturday).

The first edition was introduced by Manicaland Bodybuilding Association back in 2017 in Mutare at a local hotel and it was a success but in the following year the association failed to stage the event due to lack of funding.

This year the contest will run under the theme: ‘A healthy body is a healthy mind’.

The contest is open to participants from across the country and participants will take part in eight categories which include  senior men bodybuilding, junior men bodybuilding Under-23, men’s fitness, women’s bikini and under-17 junior men body building.

The registration fee is $30rtgs.

Speaking to Post Sport early this week, former Mr Zimbabwe Tobias ‘Tubbs’ Madzime said though funding and economic hardships are still a challenge for the event, he is ready to give it all as an individual.  “The road is tough to such an extent that one ends up sponsoring the event as an individual simply because of the love for the sport.

We appeal to Government to look at the challenges we face and support us.

“The Manicaland Classic Bodybuilding contest is the only official provincial show recognised by our national body and we are expecting a total of 54 Athletes to battle it all out for the ultimate prize.

The prizes include $4 000RTGS in cash and other vouchers that sum up to $4 000 RTGS. The event is open to those that would also want to watch at a fee,” he said.

He added that Manicaland Classic Bodybuilding is motivated by the Arnold Classic that is hosted in America by the famous actor and Governor of California in the United States of America, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Madzime also urged women to come out in numbers so as to participate and lift the girl child in the sport.

The event is going to have an after party and an artiste, Doctor Tawanda who is based in Botswana is billed to perform.
