A RUSAPE man, who allegedly lured his girlfriend to a lodge and raped her has been arrested and hauled before the courts to answer the charges.
The suspect Zacharia Matsika (30), of Matsika village on the outskirts of Rusape, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Rusape regional magistrate Mrs Lucie-Anne Mungwari.
Matsika was remanded to July 9 for trial.
Ms Event Dhliwayo prosecuted.
Ms Dhliwayo told the court that Matsika invited his Chitungwiza-based girlfriend to Rusape on the pretext that he wanted to introduce her to his sister.
He then led the unsuspecting girl to lodge along the Harare-Mutare road where he allegedly raped her.
“Matsika is the complainant’s boyfriend. On March 26, 2019 the complainant proceeded from Chitungwiza to Rusape where she met the accused person. The two had a short conversation and Matsika left the complainant proceeding to an unknown place.
“After sometime Matsika returned and informed the complainant that he wanted to go and introduce her to his sister. The two proceeded to a lodge where on arrival the accused person introduced the complainant to a person he referred to as his brother. He then led her into a room at the lodge where he raped her. After the committing the offence, Matsika dumped the complainant and disappeared. The complainant later tracked Matsika to his rural home where the accused person informed her to go back her parents’ home. Complainant lodged a complaint with police on March 28,” said Ms Dhliwayo.
