AN abusive Nyanga man failed to move on after separating with his wife and returned to rape her.

Trymore Chirozvi (34) was arrested and appeared in court last week for raping his ex-wife.

He was not asked to plead when he appeared before Rusape magistrate, Ms Annie Ndiraya, and was remanded in custody to October 22.

Public prosecutor, Mr Innocent Mwoyowaonda, said Chirozvi travelled from Murehwa to visit his ex-wife at her workplace where she is employed as a domestic worker.

He tried to strike her with hoe handle, before threatening to kill her for ditching him.

“Sometime in May 2021, the complainant separated with Chirozvi. She remained staying with her children, while Chirozvi relocated to Murehwa.

“On October 3, the accused person went to the complainant’s workplace. When he arrived, he knocked at the bedroom door, and was told that he was not supposed to be at the complainant’s workplace.

“He forcibly opened the door and gained entry into the complainant’s room. He demanded for answers on why she had dumped him. Chirozvi threatened to kill the complainant if she failed to change her mind and reconcile with him.

“He took a hoe handle and attempted to strike the complainant with it, but she managed to hold it. He assaulted her. He remained at the place until the following morning when he force-marched the complainant to his relatives for counselling,” said Mr Mwoyowaonda.

He said the two were advised to settle their matter amicably, but Chirozvi threatened to kill the complainant.

“He took the complainant to his room, and forced her to sleep at his place. He proceeded to rape her. She managed to escape the following morning and contacted a police officer for assistance. A report was filed leading to Chirozvi’s arrest,” said Mr Mwoyowaonda.
