A NYANGA man is battling for his life in hospital after he was severely assaulted by his brother.

Tawanda Makawa (37) of Nyamutowera Village, under Chief Saunyama’s area, allegedly used an iron rod, a stone and fists to attack his elder brother, Shingirai Makawa, over an undisclosed issue.

Tawanda is now facing attempted murder charges and appeared before Nyanga magistrate, Mrs Constance Marutya.

He was not asked to plead.

Tawanda was remanded in custody to August 4 and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

Public prosecutor, Mr Tawanda Mashanda said witnesses saw Tawanda attacking his brother. “On July 19, Tawanda had a misunderstanding with his brother, Shingirai. Tawanda grabbed an iron rod and assaulted Shingirai three times on the head and once on the right leg.

“He further hit him with a stone several times all over the body. He also attacked him with fists.

“Shingirai lost consciousness and only regained it after Tawanda had left. Shingirai is currently admitted at Elim Mission Hospital.

“Witnesses saw Tawanda assaulting his brother and also led the investigating officer to the crime scene where the bloodstained stone used to assault the complainant was recovered,” said Mr Mashanda.
