A HEADLANDS man last Saturday went berserk and fatally assaulted his brother after a beer binge.

Jeffrey Kupfuma allegedly bludgeoned his brother, Revai Kupfuma, with a log all over his body. Jeffrey was arrested soon after committing the heinous crime and is assisting police with investigations.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa, confirmed the incident that happened in Mayo, Headlands.

The siblings were drinking traditional beer at Solomon Munjayi’s homestead when Jeffrey decided to go home after having one too many.

He left Revai behind.

The infuriated and drunk Revai followed home and went into the kitchen hut to quiz Jeffrey why he had left him behind.

A fight ensued between the two and villagers, including Jeffrey’s wife Nonsation Kahuku, were awakened by the noise.

Inspector Kakohwa said Jeffrey went berserk and struck Revai several times on the head with a log.

“Jeffrey stormed outside and left Revai unconscious. Jeffrey later came to his senses and tried to conduct first aid on his brother. Revai was ferried to St Michael’s Mugodhi Clinic and was pronounced dead upon arrival.

“We urge people to settle their disputes amicably. Violence does not settle disputes. We will not hesitate to arrest people who take the law into their hands,” said Inspector Kakohwa.
