A CHIMANIMANI man who could not fathom his estranged wife’s decision to walk away from their rocky marriage went berserk and struck her with a machete all over the body before shooting himself. Moreblessing Mutakura (29) sustained serious injuries

and was taken to Birchenough Bridge Hospital after Benia Chikwindi (42) struck her once on the head and palms with a machete.
Chikwindi later shot himself on the chin and died instantly.
Police confirmed the tragic incident which happened in Nenhohwe Village in Chief Mutambara’s area on Sunday.
“We continue to urge couples to solve marital disputes amicably and maturely by seeking professional counselling.
“Taking each other’s life has never been a solution and we will not hesitate to arrest people who take the law into their own hands. Chikwindi’s body was taken to Nyanyadzi mortuary,” said Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa.
The couple separated in June this year because of marital disputes.
Mutakura had moved away from their matrimonial home and was staying at her mother’s home which was in the same village.
Chikwindi approached Mutakura who was in the company of his sister Marilyn. The infuriated Chikwindi produced a machete from his trousers and struck Mutakura on her head and both palms.
Mutakura ran away from the scene and returned home.
He collected a short gun and shot himself below his chin and died instantly.
In an unrelated incident, a 23-year-old man from Chief Muusha’s area burnt himself to death after suspecting that his wife was having an extra-marital affair.
Stuart Chingore’s body was burnt beyond recognition.
“Chingore questioned Itai Maphosa (20) for having an extra-marital affair, but the latter denied the allegations. The couple approached Chingore’s father, Saul for advice and counselling, but they could not locate him.
“Chingore later returned home and entered his bedroom. He secured the bedroom door with a wire and set the hut ablaze. Villagers noticed the burning hut, but could not retrieve his body. He was burnt beyond recognition,” said Insp Kakohwa.
