A Marange man has been dragged to court for threatening to hack his wife with a machete after she refused to sanction his move to marry her minor sister.
Frank Chipfatsura allegedly sexually abused Saliwe Teramai’s 10-year-old sister.
The minor left the Chipfatsura homestead for her parents’ home after the sexual abuse.
Chipfatsura allegedly compensated the Teramais with a cow for abusing their child.
However, ever since then, Teramai has not known any peace in her home as her husband has been physically abusing her.
This recently emerged at the Mutare Magistrates Civil Court as Teramai was applying for a protection order against her husband.
Mutare magistrate, Mr Xavier Chipato granted the protection order in Teramai’s favour.
Chipfatsura was ordered not to assault, insult, threaten and harass his wife.
He was also ordered not to bar her from accessing their matrimonial home in Magumo Village, Marange.
Teramai said in April, her husband went away for a week without notifying her.
She said when he came back, he charged towards her and threatened to hack her with a machete.
“He came back home on April 11 after he had disappeared for a week. He discussed something with our two children. He later came home and chased me away with a machete. He instructed me to go back to my parents’ home and bring them so that he would explain to them what was irking him.
“He refused to disclose what was troubling him. He told me not to come back without my parents,” said Teramai.
She said when she got to her parents’ home, they accompanied her back to her house the following morning.
“He never said anything to my parents, arguing that he wanted the issue to be discussed in the presence of our neighbours. However, our neighbours were not around that day and my parents left for their home, leaving me behind,” she said.
Teramai said the following day, Chipfatsura insulted and assaulted her, accusing her of chasing away her minor sister. He said he wanted to marry.
“My husband has been assaulting and insulting me for about two years now since he sexually abused my minor sister whom we were staying with.
“He has been accusing me of driving her away, indicating that he wanted to marry her. He compensated my parents with a beast. However, my sister doesn’t even want to see him because of what he did to her. He is trying to force me to bring her back against her wish,” said Teramai.
In response, Chipfatsura accused Teramai of having extra-marital affairs and said he wants to part ways with her because of that.
He said she was bringing up the issue of her sister as cover up for her shenanigans.
“My wife is having extra-marital affairs and I have since moved out of the matrimonial bedroom. I am planning to engage her family at the end of this month so that I hand over a divorce token as I can no longer co-exist with her,” said Chipfatsura.
