A DANGAMVURA man, Nyasha Mhonde (44), was arrested for being in possession of 37,89kg of copper. Mhonde, who was represented by Mr David Tandiri of Tandiri Law Chambers, pleaded not guilty to contravening the Copper Control Act, Chapter 14:06: (Failure to give satisfactory account of possession of copper.)

He appeared before Mutare magistrate Ms Perseverance Makala, who remanded him out of custody to October 19 on $50 bail. Public prosecutor Mr Fletcher Karombe told the court that on October 4 at around 10am, police manning a roadblock under Operation Usalama near Red Cross along the Mutare-Chimanimani Road, stopped and searched Mhonde’s vehicle.

They allegedly recovered 37,89kg of copper in a loading box. Mhonde is said to have failed to give a satisfactory explanation on why he possessed the copper, leading to his arrest.
