Majika in court facing infanticide charges

Majika Zamukudzi appeared before senior Chipinge magistrate Mr Poterai Gwezhira on Monday facing infanticide charges.

She was not asked to plead and the matter was remanded to a date to be advised as the accused was not feeling well. Majika has since been admitted at Chipinge District Hospital under guard of officers from the Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Serves (ZPCS).

Edison Ndangana appeared before the same magistrate facing a concealing charge. He pleaded guilty to the charge and was remanded in custody to today  for sentencing.

Mr Gift Bikita told the court that the incident which occurred on May 1, 2018 in Bangira Village.

“Majika indicated that she had buried the baby in the garden. Majika then implicated her boy friend and father of the baby Ndangana. She said Ndangana had exhumed and reburied the corpse on the banks of Musirizwi River in line with Ndau tradition.

“Ndangana was apprehended, interrogated and admitted to the allegations and then led the villagers to the shallow grave where he had buried the body. The villagers exhumed the body and reported the matter was reported to police,” said Mr Bikita.
