MONDAY, December 5 saw popular talk show hostess, Rebecca Chisamba, popularly known as Mai Chisamba of the Mai Chisamba Show gracing Mutare for recordings.

Excited Mutare fans thronged the Golden Peacock Villa Hotel for the recording of two Mai Chisamba shows which will be aired on ZTV sometime this month.

The over-excited mob could not hide their excitement as they welcomed and clapped for Mai Chisamba as she did what she knows best on stage.

In an interview after the recording of one of the shows that had to do with the relationship of a daughter-in-law and her in-laws as well as her own family, Mai Chisamba said she was excited to be in Mutare as she was also the city’s daughter-in-law.

She said Africans need to embrace their culture and be proud of themselves as that was the main reason in-laws were jealousy and disrespecting each other.

“The moment you learn that your in-laws are your new family and that is how we Africans are supposed to behave, then we are in the right direction.

“It is also important that the husband’s relatives respect the new member of the family and take her as one of their own because their relative and the bride are now one flesh as stated in the Bible.

“We need to respect the family setup and not copy the Western way of doing things. We are Africans and not Western and each and everyone of us should know that. For us to be defined as a people, we need to respect and observe our culture,” said Mai Chisamba.

One of Mai Chisamba’s excited fans who was present at the recording, Mavis Maphosa, said the visit was a much-awaited one.

“I am over the moon because this is my first time seeing Mai Chisamba and also feature in a TV show.

“I just hope that the message that we have conveyed to all daughters and mothers-in-law will be welcomed and that they will work on their relationship,” said the ecstatic Maphosa.

Another fan, Timothy Masiyazi, said Mai Chisamba had to frequent Mutare and record her shows in the city.

“She has to frequent Mutare because we love her. The people love her and want her back before she is even gone. Mai Chisamba’s show is all about our day to day living and what is happening in family setups.

“By participating in the talk show and sending our own advises to everyone else out there, we feel honoured and loved as well as her fans,” said Masiyazi.
