ZANU PF national political commissar and Deputy Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs Cde Victor Matemadanda has bemoaned the failure by local authorities to deliver quality service to residents saying the ruling party will soon descend on those shortchanging residents.

Cde Matemadanda said this during a tour of Mutare Central Business District (CBD), Mutare Provincial Hospital, Sakubva market place and the main bus terminus in a “meet-the-people” stunt.

He said there was inadequate interaction between local authorities and ordinary people, resulting in the growing mistrust between the two, as well as failure to attend critical issues in suburbs.

“My experience is that people are very happy that the Government has ushered in a new currency regime, but they want money to be in circulation. Residents are complaining about poor service delivery. Vendors are asking for proper vending marts, but it seems the local authority have no answer to such pertinent issues.

“We are going to meet with the Government ministries, that includes the Ministry of Local Government, to deal with service delivery issues by local authorities and town councils,” he said

In the areas he visited in Mutare, Cde Matemadanda heard residents thanking the Government for introducing Zupco buses.

They however, urged the authorities to increase the fleet to effectively cater for commuter in all areas.

Mutare residents commended Cde Matemadanda for his visit to Manicaland, saying there was need for frequent interactions between high-ranking officials and general citizens.

The residents had many grievances that ranged from poor service delivery from the city fathers, illegal rating of bond coins against notes, levying of a 30 percent and additional 35 percent for one to access cash from mobile money agents.
