King Shaddy lets down fans

DANCEHALL musician King Shaddy failed to perform at the popular Pick and Save last weekend after he demanded to be paid upfront. Gifted lyricist Leonard Zhakata had to abruptly call off his short sabbatical during the weekend to mesmerise local fans that braved the chilly weather and attended the show last Saturday evening.
The show organiser and venue proprietor, Isau Mupfumi, said he had agreed with the controversial chanter that the latter would take the gate-takings, a deal the musician later reversed a few hours before the show.

King Shaddy’s mobile number was not reachable by the time of going to press.
“We had agreed that he would take the gate-takings. It is sad that some upcoming musicians are that unprofessional and naïve yet we are trying to help them. He changed goalposts at the 11th hour and we were left with no option but to call Zhakata. Fortunately, Zhakata had no shows elsewhere. We could not let our fans down,” he said.

Zhakata, who performed after sungura novice Albert Gatsi and dendera outfit Two Keys, did not disappoint. He kept revellers on their feet with some yesteryear songs, among them Mugove.
