MUTARE provincial magistrate, Mr Richard Ramaboa, acquitted three Mutare man who were facing kidnapping charges.

The three, Ignatius Mundondo, David Maramba and Doubt Mazonde who were represented by Mr Ashel Mutungura of Mutungura and Associates were acquitted after a full trial.

They had pleaded not guilty.

Ms Tawananyasha Muuya prosecuted.

They were accused of contravening Section 93 (b) (iii) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23 when they reportedly kidnapped a Mutare man, Matthew Mundondo.

Mr Ramaboa acquitted the trio for lack of incriminating evidence against them.

The State had alleged that Ignatius Mundondo, Maramba and Mazonde drove to Matthew Mundondo’s house and manhandled him.

“On January 22, the trio and their colleagues who are still to be identified and are at large drove to Mundondo’s house and manhandled him.

“While in the house, and after realising that he had no money, they stole his three mobile phones, clothes, blankets and shoes, among other belongings which all amounted to US$8 000.

“They forbade him from leaving his house, threatening him with unspecified action,” said Ms Muuya.

He added: “In trying to blackmail and force him to give them cash, they brought petrol from their car which they used to set all the property on fire.

“Everything was burnt to ashes and nothing was recovered.”
