MANICALAND is in for a treat next Saturday as man-of-the-moment and Zimbabwe’s music icon, Jah Prayzah, headlines Mutare’s own commercial radio station, Diamond FM’s seventh anniversary celebrations at Osborne Dam.

Euphoria is already gripping Mutare, with many gearing up for the potentially-intriguing carnival, while some sections of the ‘Doubting Thomases’ describing the development as too good to be true.

“It is confirmed. Jah Prayzah will headline the event to mark the radio station’s seven years of existence,” said Diamond FM station manager, Jabulani ‘JB’ Mangezi in an interview this week.

The event will be held under theme: “Perfect Seven” and it will be open for families as it will start in the morning till the last man drops.

Families will have time to merry make and mellow out from pressures of city life on the shores and in the magical waters of the majestic tourism site, Osborne Dam.

Spending time at the venue itself, even when there is no event is a timeless and exhilarating experience.

And then one can imagine watching Jah Prayzah and his energetic Third Generation Band performing live on the banks of Manicaland’s largest water body.

What makes the radio station’s seventh birthday special is that it has coincided with the lanky artiste’s record-breaking release of two albums – Chiremerera (Respect) and Maita Baba (Thank you Lord) last weekend.

Mangezi, who has stirred the radio station’s ship to dizzy heights, added that this was yet another time to pay tribute to the people of Manicaland for their sterling and untiring support.

“We are saying to the people of Manicaland and beyond, come and let us enjoy together on the shores of Manicaland’s sleeping tourism giant, Osborne Dam.

“Bringing arguably one of the country’s most consistent and talented artistes, Jah Prayzah, is our gift to the people of Manicaland for being with us throughout the journey. Everyone should come and enjoy the flora and fauna of the majestic site while mixing, mingling and having fun with our loved ones.

“As a radio, we have loved every bit of the journey that is why we are calling it ‘Perfect Seven’, not implying, however, that we did not encounter imperfect moments. We went through a difficult period during the deadly Covid-19 era, Cyclone Idai which saw a lot of lives being lost and the resignation of some staff members, but we are proud of what we have achieved in seven years. We want to say thank you to the listeners because without a listener, there is no radio,” said Mangezi.

Diamond FM’s marketing executive, Peter Madondo, said there will be lots of activities for all ages, among other things, braai, quad bikes, jumping castles and boat cruising.

“The radio station is giving back to the listeners by bringing to town one of the finest artistes in Zimbabwe who is trending following the release of his latest albums.

“The event is unique in that it will allow Diamond FM fans to sample what a local tourist resort, Osborne Dam has to offer in terms of tourism while enjoying good music from Jah Prayzah and lots of other local acts while meeting their favourite deejays,” he said.
