MUTARE’S own and only commercial radio station Diamond FM is growing in leaps and bounds as it celebrates three years of existence tomorrow (Saturday) at Mutare Show Grounds.

The anniversary will be broadcast live on the local radio station at 103,8 on the FM dial.

The celebrations start at 10am till late.

Diamond FM, which is part of the broadcast arm of the Zimpapers Group, will be hosting musicians Andy Muridzo aka Baba Keketso, Baba Harare, Hwinza, Real Eeez band and Caff, among others.

This year’s event is special and different said the radio station manager Jabulani ‘‘JB’’ Mangezi.

“Like wine we are getting better with age. We have improved so much as a brand and this event is in recognition of the journey we have travelled.

“As a way of interacting and engaging with our valued listeners we have made the event free of charge so that they have the opportunity to meet our Diamond FM team.

“The headline act will be at 6pm as Baba Harare will be performing. We urge a lot of people to come to our event,” said Mangezi.

This time, the event will be bigger and better as there will be talented vocalist Andy Muridzo, fondly known as Baba Keketso. Muridzo of the Chidhafu dhunda and Dherira fame, in an interview, said he was proud to be associated with the station’s third anniversary.

“We are proud to be associated with the radio’s grand anniversary. We are ready. Our fans in Mutare should brace up for a top notch performance. It is going to be a thriller,” he said.

And for dread-locked musician and jiti prodigy, Baba Harare, this is a platform for him to popularise his new project “Ramba wakadzvanya”. The album which is impregnated with danceable tunes will certainly send scores of fans expected to throng the event into delirium.

“It is going to be an exciting outing and we are ready to rock Mutare. We have a lot of fans there and we believe it’s going to be exciting. We are coming there with a lot of surprises. Mutare should brace up for a scintillating performance,” he said.

Local artiste Lionel ‘Caff’ Matanda, whose brand has reached an exciting stage, is also rearing to go.

Caff, who is currently riding high with a soulful and danceable hit, Manager, stands as one of the few local artistes slated to rub shoulders with Baba Harare and Muridzo at the high-profile event. What a milestone!

“I am happy to be among the best. This is certainly going to be a show I will remember for a long time. I feel privileged to be one of the artistes associated with the radio station’s celebrations. It’s really an honour. We are going to play with a live band and we are ready for the carnival,” he said.

Other budding artistes expected to perform are songstress, Rutendo Jackie, Zim dancehall sensation Hwinza, of the Sombonyo fame, Ragga Manyika sensation Assegai Crew, formidable twins Real Eazy, Darly Boi, Uta Boy, Unity Edge and Trap Helico.

Last year, the radio station staged yet another historical anniversary at Manicaland Motoring Club. It was a two-day fun filled event that saw hundreds of people attending.

The radio station teamed up with sister radio station Star FM in unveiling a unique but exciting concept: “Pachedu Vasikana:Ngokwethu Mankazana” which was led by top presenters Tilda Moyo and Tariro Mazvarirwofa popularly known as (Mai Judha). Women engaged engage in competitions in several categories such as cooking, cleaning, hygiene among other things.

Children had time of the lives with entertainment such as jumping castle, horse riding and face painting, while spouses and music lovers were captivated with some exciting performances, features that will also be prominent at this year’s event.
