A WIFE snatcher in Nyanga was last week made to pay four beasts for impregnating a married woman whose husband had gone to South Africa in search of greener pastures.

Shereni Nyakamene was last week fined four beasts, two of them to be handed over to Acting Chief Saunyama’s court for defiling his area and failing to respect the marriage institution, while the remaining two will be given to Cecelia Nyausuro’s husband, Adam Madzishe.

Tempers flared during the court hearing as Madzishe demanded to know what really transpired following his relocation to South Africa.

Initially, Madzishe told the court that he still loved his wife despite her having a child out of wedlock, only to summersault and disown Nyausuro in the presence of scores of people who were in attendance, including her parents.

Nyakamene admitted being the father of Nyausuro’s newly-born child.

The court heard that Nyausuro and Madzishe married last year in October and only stayed together for five days, before the latter went to South Africa.

Nyausuro is reported to have had an intimate relationship with Nyakameme from January, resulting in the birth of the child in question.

Madzishe returned home in October this year and decided to take his wife to South Africa.

“After processing all the paperwork, the couple proceeded to South Africa where all hell broke loose. Nyausuro delivered a bouncing baby there and Madzishe quizzed her over this.

Considering the period he had been absent, he realised that the baby belonged to someone else. He quizzed his wife about the issue, but she failed to give him a satisfactory explanation,” said Acting Chief Saunyama.

Nyausuro later confessed before the court that Nyakamene was the father of her child.

Madzishe subsequently surrendered his wife to Nyakamene.

“It is an abomination to date, let alone bed a married woman. We made Nyakamene pay four beasts for defiling the land and failing to respect the marriage institution. We condemn adultery, and those found guilty will be fined heavily. We also ordered Nyakamene to compensate Madzishe with two beasts for disrespecting his marriage,” added Acting Chief Saunyama.

The incident happened hardly a fortnight after another Nyanga man was asked to pay three beasts after he was found guilty of bedding his daughter-in-law.

The man, only identified as Mukono, also appeared before Acting Chief Saunyama’s court and confessed bedding his daughter-in-law, Chipo Matimba.

Mukono said he proposed love to Matimba through text messages and phone calls, before the two got into a sexual relationship.

The matter came to light after Mukono’s wife saw intimate messages between the lovebirds in her husband’s phone.
One of the messages read: “Ndiri kukufunga mupfungwa nendangariro (I am thinking about you)”.

Mukono’s wife confronted Matimba over the issue and he admitted having an intimate relationship with his daughter-in-law.
