A 25-YEAR-OLD illegal diamond miner from Buhera was shot dead in Chiadzwa by a Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) security guard, after he teamed up with other accomplices to attack the security officers.

Although Manicaland police spokesperson Inspector Taviringwa Kakohwa said he was yet to receive information regarding the incident, sources told The Manica Post that the deceased, Terrence Masendeke, of Jori Village under Chief Nyashanu, was illegally mining in ZCDC fields with 300 other panners.

One of the security guards Dulula Chinamano, (54), fired some shots towards the illegal miners and one of the bullets hit the deceased.

“On May 15 at around 10am, Chinamano was in the company of four other security guards namely Zengeni Givemore (52), Cosio Kashambwa  (48), Makambwa Clever (46) and Victor Bepete.

“They were patrolling the Chiadzwa diamond fields.

“Chinamano was armed with an FN Browning shotgun. At Chikwarukwaru area in Portal A, the guards discovered about 300 illegal miners who were illegally mining diamonds.

“They were armed with wrenches and shovels,” said the source.

The illegal miners were told to vacate ZCDC premises, but they resisted and instead began attacking the guards.

This resulted in the shooting, which led to the victim’s death. A police report was made and detectives from the homicide section attended the scene.
