ZANU-PF leaders in Manicaland have undergone a five-day training on the party’s philosophy conducted by the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology (HCSI) to help them monitor and interpret critical contemporary issues correctly.

The workshop, held in the Vumba, was attended by leaders from the provincial level right up to the Politburo, including the MPs.

Zanu-PF national chairperson Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri said it was no longer time for sloganeering and insulting each other, but to deliver tangible development resonating with Vision 2030.

“The leadership has to work; to mobilise and work towards fulfilling our promises. We want to see tangible development on the ground, not how good you are at talking and insulting others. We will look at the work you are doing. Have you started any sustainable projects for the people? What have you done to change the lives of the people as a Zanu-PF leader? Zanu-PF leadership should prove beyond doubt that they are developmental,” said Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri.

She warned members against stampeding for positions, arguing that such behaviour would only serve to fuel divisions and confusion in the party.

“We cannot be doing the same things over the past 40 years – we should now embrace a developmental trajectory and deliver tangible results on the ground. It should not be about positions we hold in the party. I am ready to work with those who are willing to ensure that we achieve the President’s vision of becoming a middle income economy by 2030.

“We have lawyers here, go and educate people on their rights, those in health, show the people the importance of going for cancer screening and getting tested for other diseases. You cannot sit on your laurels and wait for the First Lady to educate the women in your constituency on the importance of cervical cancer screening. Be proactive,” Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri said.

Going forward, Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri said every leader should have a strategic development plan for their area.

“Manicaland should show President Mnangagwa that it is doing things differently. It is no longer business as usual in the province. Let us work as a united force and become a beacon on championing a successful devolution agenda,” she said.

Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri said the party should engage youths in the Diaspora with new ideas on markets for agricultural and mineral resources from the province.

Zanu- PF provincial chairman Cde Mike Madiro said the training will help develop a deeper understanding of Zanu PF’s intrinsic values.

“Zanu-PF is a people’s party with all the attendant policies and programmes meant to realise the aspirations and interests of the people of Zimbabwe. There is need to discharge effective and efficient leadership; and it is important that the leadership understands and coins a common value in terms of ideological direction,” he said.

Chitepo School of Ideology director for academic studies Retired Colonel Resten Magumise said the basic orientation course was designed to lay the foundation for a national ideology.

The programme covered nine subjects – including the national history – which covers the concepts, events, trends and issues that obtained from the past to date.

“History forms the direction of a people’s culture, norms and values and gives direction to the future. It also gives a clearer understanding of economic value and issues that affected our nation during colonialism; how colonialism affected us and how we are continuing to fight to liberate ourselves economically towards vision 2030,” he said.

Other subjects covered include international relations, national ideology, policy formulation, current affairs, media and communication, among others.

After the course, HCSI will offer a three months course on cadre development for those who exhibit qualities for higher positions of authority.
