THE recent Herentals College soccer tournament, which was part of the Herentals FC three weeks long pre season camp in the eastern border city, saw the Harare side securing the services of two Mutare youngsters.

Tinashe Mvundura and Terence Marikano, who were both attached to Mutare junior football teams Sheckon Stars and Chikanga Stars, will be joining the Herentals Northern Region Division One outfit

Herentals have a team in the domestic top flight league as well as in the second tier Northern Region Division One League.

Mvundura and Marikano were identified by Herentals gaffer Paul Benza during the tournament that the Harare side hosted in Sakubva recently.

Benza confirmed his club’s interest in the Mutare duo.
“We are happy with the three weeks camp that we had here in Mutare. It helped us a lot in terms of bonding and adjusting to conditions that we are not usually used to.

“More importantly, we managed to identify talented players that I thought I need to have a look at. These are Tinashe Mvundura as well as Terence Marikano. I watched them play and I was impressed. I only need to have more time with them back in Harare,” he said.
The recent Herentals College’s exciting tournament saw several teams that include Herentals, LA Sakubva, Chikanga, Dangamvura, Sheckon and Hobhouse competing.

Pool A teams comprised LA Sakubva, Herentals and Chikanga while Pool B had Sheckon, Hobhouse and Dangamvura.

The tournament was also a marketing initiative for Herentals Group of College, as a bastion of academic excellence as well as a formidable sporting entity that has seen Herentals FC doing pretty well in the just-ended Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

The tournament was sponsored by Herentals chief executive, Innocent Dambudzo Benza, affectionately known as ‘IB9’.
