After enjoying 33 years of marital bliss, a Mutare man is up in arms with his wife as she has been selling their matrimonial property.

Chipo Zhareki (50) says she sold the said property to spite Mafios Mukuma after he had an extra-marital affair with their elderly neighbour.

But 80-year-old Mukuma told the court that Zhareki is falsely accusing him.

The couple appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Lazarus Murendo, early this week.

Mukuma was seeking a protection order against his wife.

“When I ask her why she is selling our property, she says she will only stop when I turn over a new leaf and become faithful to her. I am very faithful to her but she just does not believe it. Why would I start having affairs at this age?  I can prove my love and affection to her,” said the octogenarian.

However, Zhareki was not convinced.

“We have been happy for the past 33 years. l recently realised that my husband is cheating on me with our widowed neighbour. What pains me the most is that the woman is older than both of us. I cannot stand the pain and that is why I have been behaving like this. I need him to realise that I am still part of his life,” she said.

A binding over protection order was granted to the couple.

Mr Murendo also advised the couple to iron out their issues and enjoy their marriage.

“You two have been happily married for 33 years. You need to live peacefully and enjoy your marriage as you have been doing all along. You cannot start dragging each other to court at such an age.

“It does not give a good impression to your children, grandchildren and other young couples here at this court. You are supposed to be their role models, nothing less. Please go back home and live in peace,” said Mr Murendo.
