FORMER Hillside uprising golfer Robson Chinhoi will this month take his blossoming career a notch up when he partakes in his maiden European Tour events the Magical Kenya Open and the Kenya Savannah Classic.

The Kenya Open, titled the Magical Kenya Open for sponsorship reasons, is a professional golf tournament founded in Kenya in 1967.

In 2019, the Kenya Open became a European Tour event and was played in mid-March during the same week as the globally acclaimed Players Championship on the PGA Tour.

In-form professional golfer Chinhoi will also have a rare opportunity to play in another European Tour co-sanctioned tournament at the Kenya Savannah Classic.

The talented golfer has competed in a number of tournaments during the last two months in Kenya, among them the Naivasha in which he came second, as well as the Nyali in Mombasa in which he settled for second position.

He also played in the Muthaiga competition and was second best.

Chinoi also took part in the Karen tournament and once again settled for second position.

After coming second behind winner Jasta Madoya of Kenya in the Nyali tournament last week, Chinhoi has shifted his focus to the more prestigious Magical Kenya Open.

“I am targeting to beat the course, not the people I will be playing with. I am focused on achieving just that. I am confident that if I manage to be consistent and continue with the way I have been playing, nothing will stop me from achieving more,” he said.

Chinhoi has been doing well in the Safari Tour, where he managed a slot in this year’s Magical Kenya Open, and his current standing may unveil an opportunity for him to be part of the €1 million 72-hole stroke play event.

The Kenya Savannah Classic was recently added to the European Tour 2021 International schedule.

It will take place from March 23 to March 26 at the Karen Country Club in Nairobi.

The Magical Kenya Open will be played at the same venue from March 18 to March 21.

Both tournaments will be played under the European Tour’s health strategy, which will be aligned with Kenyan Government guidance.
