THREE gun-toting robbers allegedly stole US$500 from a Nyanga gold dealer after impersonating police officers.

At around 4am, Taurai Mudzudzu was sleeping when three unidentified robbers knocked on his front door.

One of them called Mudzudzu by name, before they identified themselves as police officers and ordered him to come outside.

As soon as he opened the door, two of the robbers produced pistols and threatened to blow off Madzudzu’s head if he didn’t co-operate with them.

The robbers force-marched Madzudzu to his bedroom and ordered him to surrender his mobile phone, money and gold.

Mudzudzu surrendered his phone and an empty wallet. He told the robbers that he had no money or gold in his possession.

However, one of the robbers searched the house and found US$500 in the wardrobe.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa confirmed the incident.

“One of the robbers found a wallet with US$500 in the wardrobe. Before leaving, the robbers handed Mudzudzu his phone and identity documents,” said Inspector Kakohwa.

He urged people to request for identity particulars from those that claim to be police officers.

He also advised people to comply with robbers’ instructions to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.
