A cursory research on the Fifa website revealed how academies should benefit from the sale of their products.

l An academy should be registered with the football association (Zifa) and the players should have signed contracts with the academy. The actions gives legitimacy in claiming training and solitary compensation.

l Article 20 relates to training compensation and notes that such compensation shall be paid to a player’s training clubs:

  1. when a players signs his first contract as a professional.
  2. each time a professional is transferred until the end of the season of his 23rd birthday.

l If a professional is transferred before the expiry of his contract, any club that has contributed to his education and training shall receive a proportion of the compensation paid to his former club (solidarity contribution).

l Training compensation is a financial reimbursement to a player’s training club(s) when they sign their first contract with a professional club and/or on each transfer until his/her 23rd birthday. The amount payable is calculated on a pro rata basis based on the training period spent with each club between the ages of 12 and 21.

l Training compensation is paid until the age of 23 for training received up until the age of 21.
