FAST-RISING afro-jazz diva, Rutendo Jaqueline Ngoreta is working on a DVD album to accompany her high riding debut album, “Love Me as I Am’”

Rutendo has played a critical role in empowering young and aspiring female artistes through the arts.

The artiste has rubbed shoulders with established artistes like Victor Kunonga. She has also headlined girl child empowerment events and International Women’s Day commemorations.

Rutendo, who is backed by Afro Blue Band, says she intends to reach a wider audience through producing quality and videos.

She told The Weekender that the DVD album will be accompanied by a new yet-to be named single which encourages the girl child to take an active role in the arts industry.

The DVD album will carry videos for “Usandisiye”, “KwaMutare”, “Kumafaro”, “Vabereki Vangu”, “Buyisa Nkomo” and “It’s Your Love’”.

The “Buyisa Buyisa Nkomo” video was directed by Blaqs Vusa Hlatshwayo.

“My producers are now busy working on concepts for the six videos that will be unveiled soon. The videos will be shot in several areas in the scenic Eastern Highlands areas of Vumba and Nyanga as soon as COVID-19 is under control.

The video “KwaMutare” will be shot in Mutare’s Central Business District as well as in high-density suburbs. On that track, I appreciate the beauty of my home town,” she said.

“I am happy with the overwhelming response my debut album has received. It wasn’t easy to venture into mainstream music as it is male-dominated. The support I have been getting is motivating,” she said.

Meanwhile, speaking to women and girls who recently attended the Women in Arts Mentorship programme in Mutare, Rutendo, who was one of the guest speakers, said: “Women are pillars in their families. They are well conversant with the development of their families and societies.”

The event was organised by National Arts Council of Zimbabwe.

NAC Mutare regional manager Caroline Makoni said the event provided a platform for seasoned female artistes to exchange notes with their upcoming counterparts.
