GERMANY Embassy has come to the rescue of three female soccer clubs in the country and donated an assortment of equipment.

The move will go a long way in uplifting and advancing the girl child to the levels of their male counterparts.

Vengere Juniors FC of Rusape, Zengeza Busters of Chitungwiza and Chinhoyi City Queens are the three clubs that received soccer balls, pumps, skipping ropes and bags from the Germany Embassy.

Posting on its Facebook page, the Germany Embassy said it will continue working with local clubs to empower the girl child through sport.

“We are excited to support girls soccer teams and would like to share with you the teams who have just received some sports equipment. Representatives from Vengere FC Juniors, Zengeza Busters Football Academy and Chinhoyi City Queens Football Club stopped by for the handover. As you can see, the handover turned into a mini practice session. Let us all continue to work together towards empowering girls through sport,” said the embassy.

Vengere Juniors FC co-director, Robert Mugorosa whose club is solidly growing from humble beginnings and being professionally run, said the recognition by the Germany Embassy is a step in the direction for the club whose vision is to develop talent and market the players.

“We are grateful for the donation we received from the Germany Embassy. We are an upcoming club that solely relies on the benevolence of well-wishers, so every donation matters. We hope to build an everlasting relationship with the embassy. This will inspire our girls that one day an opportunity will be availed for them to play in competitive leagues in Germany,” said the retired ZIFA Panel referee.

Zimbabwe has close connections with Germany in football matters as the late Reinhard Fabisch once coached the Warriors’ Dream Team crop in the 1990s and almost took the team to the 1994 World Cup.

Deiter Pagels again coached the national team on a Government to Government agreement where the German government paid salaries and other allowances for the coach.
