MUTARE socialite, Mudiwa Masenhu, popularly known as Made, was recently a victim of domestic violence following an altercation with his wife.

Even though Made was reluctant to talk to the Press, he confirmed that his wife poured boiling water on him following a misunderstanding. Pictures of his scathed body have since gone viral on social media platforms.

Made said he did not make a police report and could not reveal his wife’s name.

“This happened at home. I had issues with my wife and I am the one who was wrong. When I instructed my children to go outside the house due to the noise they were making, my wife came and hurled insults at me. This happened in the presence of my mother and kids.

“I could not tolerate her rowdy behaviour and I reacted by assaulting her. I was restrained.

“However, on my way out of the house, she threw a bucket of boiling water at me. The pain was unbearable,” he said.

Made advised other couples to solve domestic matters amicably.

“My brother, if you have problems at home, please solve them amicably. This is not nice. One can easily die,” he said, adding that they have since smoked the peace pipe.

“We spoke about the issue and we are moving on peacefully. She is also surprised about how she failed to control her anger. She promised that this will never happen again,” he said.

Efforts to get in touch with Masenhu’s wife were in vain as she said she would rather not revisit the fateful day’s events.

Of late, cases of domestic violence have been increasing, with the Women’s Coalition of Zimbabwe (WCoZ) saying the Covid-19 lockdown period has seen a surge in Gender Based Violence (GBV), with 764 cases recorded in 11 days only. In a statement, WCoZ raised the alarm and urged Government to activate its relevant systems to thwart GBV.

“We call upon Government to realise that the impact of the lockdown in the past 11 days has resulted in 764 GBV cases being reported,” reads part of their statement.
