THE elderly, widows, people living with disabilities and child-headed families in Mutare received an early Christmas cheer from the First Lady, Amai Auxilia Mnangagwa’s Angel 0f Hope Foundation last week on Friday.

The donation included 100 bags of maize-meal, 100 cases of rice, 80 cases of sugar, 200 bottles of cooking oil and 85 bottles of drinks.

Each beneficiary, however, received a hamper consisting 2kgs of sugar, 2kgs of rice, 10kgs of maize-meal, 2l cooking oil and 2l of drink.

Over 100 people from across Manicaland are set to benefit from the donations, while those in Mutare received their goodies at Government Complex last week on Friday.

Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Nokuthula Matsikenyeri handed over the goods.

She said everyone should emulate the First Lady who has made it her responsibility to take care of the needy.

“The welfare of the needy should be every Zimbabwean’s responsibility. What Amai Mnangagwa is doing shows that she is a true mother of the country who remembers her children at all times. On behalf of everyone in Manicaland who will receive this donation, we want to express our gratitude to Amai Mnangagwa,” she said.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr Tendai Mazuru, hailed the First Lady for the donations.

“As people living with disabilities, we want to thank the First Lady for remembering us.

“We are disadvantaged and usually miss out on a lot including receiving gifts on Christmas, so we really appreciate what Amai Mnangagwa did for us. We will continue to pray for her so that she keeps coming back to shower us with goodies,” he said.

Another beneficiary, Ms Emily Muchayembeyi said the donations came at a very opportune time.

“It is not easy to bring food on the table especially when you are living with disability, taking care of children, and in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic. We would like to thank Amai Mnangagwa for this gift. We will always remember this special occasion,” she said.
