VARIOUS stakeholders have been urged to join hands in the fight against several types of cancers so as to reduce the effects of the disease on people and save lives.

Cancer Association of Zimbabwe general manager, Ms Junior Mavhu said getting on top of the situation in the fight against cancer requires collaborative efforts as this is a shared concern.

She added that cancer treatment was very expensive, and most patients cannot afford it, hence the need for a multi-sectoral approach in assisting them.

“Cancer is real and taking a huge toll on people. Its treatment is very expensive and we are helping out some patients referred to us by providing them with medication like the chemotherapy drug. However, we are unable to assist everyone because there are many of them suffering from cancer.

“This then calls for stakeholders to combine forces and pool resources together to enable us to procure the required or sufficient medication so that we reach out to as many people as we possibly can,” said Ms Mavhu.
