PREPARING early and adequately for the forthcoming agricultural season is important in ensuring another high yield, farmers have been told.

A local agronomist, Mr Clemence Mucharidzeyi, said careful planning as well as early and adequate preparations will help farmers surpass milestones achieved last year.

“Farmers can start planting maize now if they intend to harvest it for green mealies. Preparations for the season proper should also be getting underway by clearing fields. This is also a good time to start procuring seed and other requirements since the rain season is almost upon us,” said Mr Mucharidzeyi.

Mr Mucharidzeyi said preparing early helps farmers to avoid the last minute rush as well as doing things haphazardly when they start planting.

Zimbabwe enjoyed a bumper harvest following last season’s highly successful farming season.
