Q: What do you mean families can be together forever?

A: 1 Corinthians 11:11 reads; “Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.” We know since the time of Adam and Eve marriage between man and women has been ordained of God.

God wants his children to be happy together as husband and wife, not only on earth but even after death. In holy places called temples, marriages are performed by the power and authority of God; called the Priesthood. Keeping marriage’s valid even after death. This special ceremony is called a temple sealing. Due to the sacred nature of this ceremony God has caused there to be a place set apart from the world to preserve the sanctity and respect it deserves.

Q: Why should we be married in temples?

A: There is no more special occasion in a person’s life than their marriage. Having children only increases and strengthens the bond between husband and wife. We should be married in temples by the power of the priesthood so that these special family relationships don’t have to tragically end with death. Rather so they can happily continue for time and all eternity.

Q: What happens to a normal legal marriage after death?

A: Matthew 16:19 says; “And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Today men have the “keys to the kingdom” meaning God allows us to seal things on earth that will last after this life. So that we can remain husband and wife as parents to our children after we have passed on. A marriage performed without this authority can only last as long as the famous line goes: “till death do you part.”

Q: When did this practice begin?

A: Genesis 2:24 teaches; “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” Adam and Eve were married by God, meaning that the sacred practice of marriage has been in place since the beginning of time. This belief is not a campaign ad to get people to join our church, but a promised blessing from God.

Even the first commandment God gave Adam and Eve; “to multiply and replenish the earth” pointed straight to their ability to have children, a power that should only be used within the bonds of marriage.
