A serial housebreaker who stole household property, cellphones and laptops in Mutare’s Chikanga and Palmerstone suburbs was recently slapped with three years imprisonment.

Mutare magistrate, Miss Tamara Chibindi slapped Lloyd Nyambuya with 48 months imprisonment, before twelve months were suspended on condition of good behaviour.

Nyambuya was facing two counts of unlawful entry.

Mr Brian Goto prosecuted.

On November 18 last year, Nyambuya broke into Mr Samuel Mamwadi’s house after gaining entry using a duplicate key on the metal kitchen screen gate. He then broke down the door.

“He stole two laptops, a Samsung S5 cellphone, a gas tank, meat and clothes,” said Mr Goto.

On January 23 this year, Nyambuya broke into Ms Evermay Kapfunye’s house in Palmerstone using an unknown object.

“He stole a 55-inch plasma television and an LG home theatre.

Ms Kapfunye discovered the offence the following morning and reported the matter to the police. Detectives received a tip-off that Nyambuya had sold the stolen home theatre set to one Last Makumbinde, where it was recovered.

When Ms Kapfunye was invited to CID Mutare, she positively identified her stolen property.

The total value of the stolen goods was $45 600 and property worth $15 000 was recovered.
