A Dangamvura cattle rustler’s give-away beef prices gave him away after residents got suspicious and tipped off the police.

Dennis Rumbi was selling the meat from water buckets.

Police investigations revealed that Rumbi had stolen a beast in Zimunya before slaughtering it for sale at ridiculously low prices.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa confirmed the arrest.

“On September 17, an informer told the police that Rumbi was selling uninspected meat at his house. Armed with the information, police proceeded to Rumbi’s house and posed as buyers.

“However, Rumbi became suspicious and fled from his house. He was arrested with the assistance of members of the public,” said Inspector Kakohwa.

Police searched the house and recovered meat packed in four 20-litre water buckets.

“Rumbi was interviewed over the origin of the meat and he confessed that he had stolen a beast in Zimunya. A follow-up was made with the police in Zimunya and they confirmed that they had received a stock theft report on the same day.

Some remains of the carcass were recovered at the scene.
