THE ZANU PF Manicaland leadership has reaffirmed its unwavering loyalty to President Mnangagwa, stressing the importance of unity and loyalty within the party, especially at this juncture that the party’s legal division is exploring ways to implement Resolution Number One, which seeks to extend his tenure to 2030.

The party’s national secretary for legal affairs, Cde Patrick Chinamasa told the Manicaland Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting held in Mutare last Sunday, that there is a pressing need for peace and unity in order to foster a favourable business environment, attract investors, and drive economic development and growth in the country.

“There is need for peace and unity in order to attract investors and develop the economy. If we are divided, with demonstrations taking place, this will scare away investments. We need to support President Mnangagwa who is our leader. Our constitution says we should be loyal to the party leadership led by the President.

“Let me address you regarding Resolution Number One, adopted at the national conference in Bulawayo last year. Those present will recall my statement that the President intended to remain in office until 2028, a stance he has since reiterated recently. The question now arises — why do we wish to extend his term until 2030? Our rationale is that his leadership has been beneficial for the country, and we desire him to complete the developmental initiatives he has undertaken.

“Our strategy entails persuading President Mnangagwa to accept the people’s offer to remain in office until 2030. If we unite and speak with one voice, his acceptance will be in our favour. The party has tasked me as the secretary for legal affairs with implementing this resolution. I will consult stakeholders to determine the best approach, which involves amending the national Constitution. Once we have a clear plan, including consultations with the Politburo and Central Committee, and if the Central Committee approves, we will instruct Government to amend the Constitution through Parliament.

“As for the President’s decision, do not concern yourselves with whether he accepts or declines. That is his prerogative. If the resolution is passed, and the Constitution amended, it will be up to him to decide. We will not be involved, and I doubt he will consult us. If he does, we will be fortunate,” said Cde Chinamasa.

Cde Chinamasa urged party members to maintain discipline and refrain from using social media to disparage the party leadership, warning that rogue elements would be expelled.

“Our constitution demands loyalty to ZANU PF and its leadership, led by President Mnangagwa. Insulting or disrespecting the President is unacceptable and will result in expulsion. Our party constitution also emphasises adherence to the constitution, policies, rules, and regulations that define us as ZANU PF.

‘‘Without a constitution, we risk descending into chaos, detrimental to both the organisation and the country.

“I urge you to remain disciplined, united, and ensure peace and coexistence within the party and country. We have issued a stern warning regarding recent misconduct, and those who continue to misbehave will face swift expulsion, regardless of their standing.

‘‘We will not tolerate individuals who seek to sow discord and trouble. I am pleased to note that Manicaland has maintained discipline, and I encourage you to continue doing so. However, Harare Province has faced issues, resulting in the suspension of a third of the provincial council, while Masvingo has also faced similar challenges,” he said.

Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza outlined the developmental projects that are being spearheaded under the leadership of President Mnangagwa to achieve the vision of an upper middle income economy by 2030.

“Government will revamp Forbes Border Post this year, and a lot of progress has been recorded. We have Christmas Pass Bypass project, which will be implemented this year, with planning at an advanced stage. We expect the local airport construction to start this year. Roads such as Birchenough-Murambinda and Chipinge-Mt Selinda are being rehabilitated. As the Minister of State, I have commissioned 37 projects within the province, taking the total number of projects commissioned to over 50, with others being commissioned by President Mnangagwa,” he said.

ZANU PF Manicaland provincial chairman, Cde Tawanda Mukodza emphasised that Resolution Number One cannot be rescinded, and expressed concern that some Central Committee members, among other party leaders are unclear about the resolution, causing confusion among party supporters.

He warned aspiring candidates against canvassing support in constituencies with sitting ZANU PF legislators, while allowing those targeting constituencies held by the opposition to maintain a heavy presence.

Cde Mukodza also condemned the indiscipline among party members and leaders who misuse social media to disparage the party leadership.

War Veterans League Manicaland provincial chairperson, Cde Linda Mathathu expressed gratitude at the War Veterans Fund, saying the comrades in Manicaland started receiving loans last Friday.

She said 10 boreholes have so far been drilled at war veterans’ homesteads in the province, while the design of houses being built for war veterans has been modified and improved to something better and more appealing.

Provincial youth league chairman, Cde Stan Sakupwanya said youths have benefited a lot from President Mnangagwa, from stands, Presidential 10-hectare scheme, Presidential Heifers Scheme, bikes, fishing permits, mining equipment, 8 000 chicks and 160 soccer and netballs.
