MUTARE’S representatives in the Chibuku Road to Fame national finals — Eastern Riders — are bubbling with confidence and promised to pull a surprise and bring the crown home.

The national finals are scheduled for Glamis Arena in Harare tomorrow. Eastern Riders face stiff competition from nine other provincial finalists.

The band is led by Lawrence Chagumachinyi Kache.

The eight-member band will battle it out with the likes of Heart Attack, Identity, Shungu Moto Boys, One on One, Dengedza Express, Jesa, Kweseka Band and Tshitshi Super Stars.

Kache told The Weekender Entertainment that they were ready for the battle.

“Obviously it will not be easy. We are going to meet other provincial giants and we know what to expect there. We are happy with the way we prepared and we are confident that we will come out in the top three.

“The first position is achievable. We will abide by the contest rules and make sure that we do not lose concentration,” he said.

Other genres that will be exhibited at the contest include Afro Lingina by Kweseka Band from Vic falls, Afro-fusion by Jesa Group from Chitungwiza and Tshibilika by Tsitshi Super Stars from Mzilikazi.

National Arts Council of Zimbabwe acting manager Alexander Tunzi said: “We would like to wish Mutare’s representatives Eastern Riders the best when they face other provincial finalists at the national competition. We believe they will do well and bring the coveted prize to the eastern highlands.”

The potentially-explosive event is expected to draw thousands of revellers from across the country.

Last year, the finals were not held due to a cholera outbreak in Harare. The groups which won the provincial competitions last year suffered a huge set back as some of them had to re-contest this year.
