A TOTAL of 157 pupils from St Joseph’s Primary School in Sakubva yesterday enjoyed an early Christmas treat after they were hosted by Golden Peacock Villa Hotel.

The pupils, who were accompanied by their teachers, toured the hotel premises before they all had a three-course meal while conversing with the hotel’s staff.

The hotel opened its doors in 2020 with 83 rooms, and due to the growth in business, it added 55 more rooms to make it the biggest hotel in the Eastern Highlands in terms of rooms capacity.

One of the teachers, Mr Teveraishe Maradzika, said: “We are grateful for this gesture, and this means a lot to the pupils. We thank the management for recognising us. This will go a long way in making the pupils understand tourism and hospitality as well as how this line of business works.”

Golden Peacock Hotel’s food and beverages manager, Mr Raymond Shasha, said: “As an organisation, we have to plough back into the community we operate in through corporate social responsibility programmes. One’s early childhood days tend to define their adulthood.

“We found it prudent to host these pupils for them to appreciate how hotels and their environment are as well as how they operate. They need that exposure. They are tomorrow’s leaders. They should be exposed to this industry early for them to support the growth of the industry when they eventually grow up.”
