THE court gallery was left in stitches when a magistrate advised an alcoholic who is in the habit of assaulting his sister to either dilute his alcohol or completely quit partaking the wise waters.

Caleb Mugova had been dragged to court by his elder sister, Violet Mugova, as she was accusing him of insulting her whenever he gets drunk.

Mutare magistrate, Mr Lazarus Murendo told Caleb, “You are now in your 30s and therefore you are a major. You should not be under the care of your elder sister. You should be doing your own things and staying alone. This woman takes care of you and you repay her through assaulting and harassing her.

“You are taking too much alcohol, dilute your beer so that it won’t mess with your head to the extent of forgetting that she is looking after you. Better still, you need to quit taking dangerous substances and be at peace with your sister,” said the magistrate.

Caleb told the court that he has since apologised to his sister.

“It is true Your Worship, when I take alcohol, I behave in a manner that I regret afterwards. I have been begging Violet for forgiveness, but she insisted on bringing me here. I am sorry my sister, I will not do it again,” he pleaded with his sister.

However, Violet told the court that Caleb always apologises but continues with his violent behaviour.

“I need protection because my brother is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. His apologies are just lip service promises he will never fulfil. As we speak, his friends are waiting for him so that they can go and drink beer.

“When he comes back home at midnight, he will start shouting profanities at me. He assaults whoever tries to knock some sense into his head. He usually apologises the following morning and we have been living like that for a year now,” said Violet.

She highlighted that she has no intention of evicting her brother, although he is capable of looking after himself.

“I do not want him evicted. I just want the court to protect me so that I am guaranteed that whenever he misbehaves, the law will punish him,” said Violet.

Mr Murendo granted Violet’s wish and barred Caleb from harassing, assaulting and insulting her.
