NEWLY promoted correctional services outfit Tenax FC will only know whether they can go ahead with their plan to engage former Buffaloes coach Shadreck Mugurasave as head coach after tomorrow’s Zifa Technical Committee meeting in Harare.

Mugurasave holds a Caf B coaching badge.

The Brighton Malandule-led Zifa Technical Committee sits tomorrow in the capital to deliberate, among other issues, the contentious matter of coaches without Caf A coaching badge.

According to the Fifa Club Licensing System, only a holder of the highest coaching qualification badge can be engaged as head or assistant coach of a club playing in the top-flight league of any given country or affiliate.

In Zimbabwe and Africa at large, the Caf A coaching badge is the highest coaching qualification, the equivalent of the UEFA A in Europe.

However, in Zimbabwe there has not been any Caf A coaching courses since 2017 thus most Caf B coaching badge holders have been desperate to augment their coaching credentials.

Malandule told Post Sport that his committee will be deliberating on the list of coaches seeking exemption during tomorrow’s meeting.

“We are going to sit as a committee to deliberate on numerous issues among them the issue of coaches that are seeking exemption because they do not have Caf A licence which is required for them to coach Premiership football clubs.

“There are a number of issues that are considered when one is to be exempted. That includes whether indeed they have the Caf B, if so, whether they have played the game at the highest level in the country and also their coaching history,” said Malandule.

Tenax FC finally settled on Mugurasave after the club interviewed with several coaches that also include former Tanganda midfield talisman Joseph “Shabba” Takaringofa.

Tenax FC chairperson Stefani Masina confirmed that the club intended to have Mugurasave as their head coach but will wait for his exemption from the Zifa Technical Committee.

“We have engaged Mugurasave and we are already working with him while we await the decision on exemption from the authorities. We have made our application and we hope we will be allowed to have him as our head coach,” said Masina.

Nicknamed Father, Mugurasave, a fine coach by any standards who got Buffaloes promoted into the Premiership not once but twice and also coached the now defunct Dongo Sawmills FC, played in the domestic top-flight league during his heydays at Buffaloes FC.
